Garrycastle captain Doron Harte is looking forward to this weekend’s Westmeath SFC quarterfinal against neighbours Athlone.

This local derby has certainly whetted the appetites of football supporters in the county, while the players themselves are chomping at the bit.

Garrycastle have been the form side in this year’s championship so far, but Harte stressed to the Westmeath Independent that form goes out the window when neighbours clash.

“It’s always great to be involved in these derby games where bragging rights are up for grabs. I’ve been involved in my fair share of derby games so I know what to expect,” said Harte.

“From our point of view, our championship campaign has gone to plan so far, but we’re in knockout territory now. Athlone are a quality team with some good players, it’s going to be a great game and its one that we are all relishing. All the players know each other and have great respect for each other. We are expecting a tough game this weekend.”
