Senior Championship

St Mary's 2-18

Maryland 1-12

We played our second match of this year's championship on Friday evening in TEG Cusack Park. On what was a perfect evening for football, the lads for off to a fast start. We raced into a three point lead within the first five minutes, with Keith Malynn, Ciaran Kelly, Callum McCormack and Joe Harte all getting on the scoresheet. From here St Mary's began to grow into the game, kicking a number of excellent scores. Our hopes took a blow when Callum had to be withdrawn in the 17th minute due to injury, and we never really recovered. St Mary's dominated the remainder of the half, leading 1-12 to 0-6 at the interval.

Facing an uphill battle in the second half, Keith Malynn kicked a great score just after the throw-in to get the team off to a good start. The lads worked hard to try and get back into the game, with St Mary's defending very well and scoring efficiently on the counter attack. We missed a number of goal chances in the during this period of the game, and these could have made a big difference as the game entered the closing stages. We would eventually raise the green flag with ten minutes to go after Kieran Martin finished off an excellent team move. We kept the scoreboard ticking over with a couple of scores from Keith Malynn and Joe Harte, but St Mary's continued to respond with scores of their own. The game would finish on a scoreline of 2-18 to 1-12.
