JFC v Ballynacargy

We opened our JFC campaign with a 2-9 to 2-12 loss to Ballynacargy in TEG Cusack Park last Monday evening, June 18.

This was a bizarre game in the sense that we could have nicked something from it after Bal' had threatened to run riot midway through the second half. With the wind behind us in the first half, we played well - despite losing Mel Kiernan to a very early black card - and were unlucky to go into the break trailing by 0-5 to 0-6. That said, it took a spectacular save from Thomas Barrett on the stroke of half-time to keep our goal intact.

Two Dean Fitzgerald points and another from Shaun Pidgeon had us 0-8 to 0-7 in front within four minutes of the restart, but then Ballynacargy took control thanks to a quickfire 2-1. We lost our shape at this juncture and could easily have conceded another five of six scores. Thankfully, this didn't happen and we almost made Bal' pay for their wastefulness when substitute Fergal Fox bagged two late goals to leave just three points in it at the finish.

The performances of championship debutant Niall Carey at wing back and Brendan Nannery in the unfamiliar role of full forward were among the positives for us as we look to our next JFC outing against a resurgent Castletown-Finea/Coole/Whitehall next week. Before then, we will complete our Division 3 campaign against Ballinagore on Monday evening and play host to Ballycomoyle in Division 6A on Wednesday evening.

Team: Thomas Barrett; Darragh Coffey, Alan Fennell, James Fox; Niall Carey, Shaun Pidgeon, Mel Kiernan; Dean Fitzgerald, Brendan McMahon; David Fennell, Nigel Scally, Kevin Smith; John Dinnegan, Brendan Nannery, Paul Fennell. Subs: Thomas Finnegan, Finbar Coffey, Keith Corcoran, Diarmuid Egan, James Finnegan, Fergal Fox, Jason Maguire, Aaron McNamee, Luke McNamee, Jamie Stone and Martin Ward.

Summer Camp

Application forms for our annual Summer Camp in August (not to be mistaken with the Cul Camp we're hosting next month) were given out in school last week. They should be returned to the school office by this Wednesday, June 27 or at underage training the following evening.

This year's Camp takes place on Thursday and Friday, August 16 and 17 from 10am to 2pm, followed by mini games, a family fun day and a BBQ from 3pm to 6pm on Saturday, August 18. The Camp is open to Kilbeggan primary school boys and girls between the ages of four and 13, and costs €20 per child (including a training top and BBQ).

Eoin Miller Memorial Tournament

On a sweltering hot afternoon, we reached the final of the Eoin Miller 7-a-side Memorial Tournament in Ballinagore last Saturday, only to lose to a strong Rosemount outfit on a 0-6 to 1-9 scoreline. Thanks to Ballinagore for inviting us.

Croke Park presentation

Marie Lynagh and Martina Rochford travelled to Croke Park last Sunday to receive our Beko / Leinster GAA award which includes €1,500 worth of club equipment. Shane Kelly of Beko and Leinster GAA chairman Jim Bolger were on hand to make the presentation before the Leinster SFC final between Dublin and Laois.

Happy birthday James!

Congratulations to James Finnegan who celebrated his 21st birthday with family and friends in The Bodhran, Ballinagore last Saturday night. We also wish Sean Hanlon a speedy recovery after he underwent cruciate ligament surgery at the Santry Sports Clinic last Friday.

The late Eddie Wilson

The club wishes to extend its sympathy to the Wilson family, Cappinrush, Rahugh on the sudden death of Eddie last week. May he rest in peace.
