Results

ACFL Senior Div 1  home v St Lomans

Castledaly found themselves up against a very strong Saint Lomans team but a much improved second half performance showed how this squad can combine, playing to their strengths, creating chances, providing strong support play, and scoring 1-12 in total.

The visitors however were not to be bettered and St Lomans secured the win.

Castledaly will look at missed chances and look to build on the many positives as the Senior championship season nears.

Junior Championship Castledaly 1.09 Shandonagh 1.12I

In the opening round of the Junior Championship, Castledaly came up just short against a fancied Shandonagh side in Castledaly last Sunday. After playing with the wind, Castledaly had opened up a five point lead by half time, thanks in the main to prolific shooting from Kevin Stone and Aaron Nugent. With fine blocking on display from Shane Dolan and Emmet Heavin in defence, Castledaly kept a lively Shandonagh attack at bay. In the 15 minutes following the break, Shandonagh rallied strongly, scoring 1-05 without reply. Cathal Dolan made a magnificent save from a controversial Shandonagh penalty which was bizarrely ordered to be retaken. Castledaly regrouped with a well-taken goal from the highly industrious M.J. Kelly. The team fought to the end and were agonisingly denied the equaliser at the death when Alan Duffy's fisted effort was scrambled off the line. Overall, this was an excellent performance especially considering the amount of games a number of these footballers have played in the past few weeks. Final score: Castledaly 1-09 Shandonagh 1-12.

Team: Cathal Dolan; Eanna Duffy, Shane Dolan, Jack Kearney; Damien Stone, Emmet Heavin, Paul Henson; Paul Costello, Mark Kearney (0-01); M.J.
