Garrycastle GAA Club - OneClubOneGameOneFamily

On Sunday evening last the year got off to a great start with major club event in the clubhouse. Invited guests, Dublin stars Jack & Sarah McCaffrey, were the guests of honour along with former Ladies Association president, Geraldine Giles who is a Westmeath woman. The Dublin players brought along their trophies, All Ireland cups, Sam Maguire and Brendan Martin. The evening was expertly hosted by Dessie Dolan and included team photos for every grade along with presentations to the under 16 and minor boys who won their respective leagues and the under 14 girls who were championship runners up. The events for the evening were completed with a Question and answer session. For this Dessie, Jack, Sarah & Geraldine were joined on stage by Michael Mannion chairman of Garrycastle GAA and Sinead Denby, chairperson of the ladies club. Sunday game pundits, studying and playing football were among the topics discussed. The concept of a community club for male and female was strongly promoted by guest Geraldine and by the two chairpersons, Michael and Sarah. Then it was opened up to the audience and some excellent questions came from some young players. One wondered from the McCaffreys what they had to do when they were young to be All Ireland winners. Another asked if Westmeath would ever win an All Ireland and another asked if Mayo would ever beat Dublin. When the official events ended there was a chance for the guests to mingle with the crowd and for players meet their heroes. Refreshments were served and enjoyed by all. It was a great event and the two Dublin players engaged very well with young not so young. Dessie did a great job compering and showed all his media experience. Great credit is due to the organising committee led by David O'Shaughnessy and Noel Gardiner and to everyone who helped on the evening.
