Lyons, Eugene

The late Eugene Lyons Our great friend Eugene Lyons passed to his eternal reward after bravely battling a long illness. Eugene (although a former senior hurler with our neighbours Roanmore) had over the past ten years become a valuable member of our juvenile section. From the time his son Eoin came to play with us Eugene offered his services to our club. From training the Under 8's in Cleaboy on Saturday mornings he progressed to become a selector at all ages from Under 11 right up to Under 16. Eugene had a tremendous understanding and knowledge of the game but he also had an ability to impart this knowledge to the young people he came in contact with. His soft and calm approach endeared him to everyone. Eugene was very proud of his two sons and nothing gave him more satisfaction than to see Eoin play with either De La Salle Club or College in the Munster Championship. To the very end he made every effort to get to these matches. The large attendance both at the removal and burial bore testimony to his popularity. It was fitting that the young players from our club who he had trained over the past ten years performed a guard of honour at St Pauls Church on the night of his removal. We would like to offer our sincere sympathy to Siobhan, Conor, Eoin, his brothers, sisters and other family members. Ar dheis lamh De go raibh a anam.
