Flynn named Waterford Hurler of the Year

December 21, 2004

Paul Flynn
Paul Flynn has beaten off stiff competition from the likes of Dan Shanahan and Ken McGrath to be named as Waterford's Hurler of the Year. The Ballygunner clubman, who has been Waterford's most prolific scoring forward over the past decade, starred in the county's capture of the Munster title this year and despite the All-Ireland semi-final defeat by Kilkenny, his 13-point haul earned him the RTE man of the match accolade. The football honour has gone to Stradbally's inspirational captain Ger Power, who led his side to a fourth successive SFC title and a first Munster club final appearance. Stradbally has also been named Club of the Year ahead of other leading contenders Mount Sion and Abbeyside/Ballinacourty. The Young Hurler of the Year is Abbeyside's Mark Fives, while Kevin Moran of De La Salle has scooped the football award. All the awards will be presented by new county board chairman Pat Flynn at a special function early in the New Year.
