Waterford wait on Shanahan

Waterford's Maurice Shanahan

Maurice Shanahan will find out today if he can line out in Sunday week's Allianz Hurling League final against Clare.

The Lismore forward visited a specialist yesterday after missing last Sunday's semi-final win over Limerick with a hip complaint.

"Maurice is gone to see a specialist so we'll know more later on," Shanahan's brother and Waterford selector Dan told the Irish Independent at the launch of the John West Féile na nGael.

"He's in Cork with a specialist so we'll know more when he gets the results. It's a groin injury maybe coming from the hip, he didn't want to chance it last week and he came to us and said he wasn't right which is fair enough.

"We are hoping he'll be okay for Sunday week and if he's not he'll be back for the championship then definitely."

Whatever about Shanahan, Waterford expect to have Pauric Mahony and Stephen Bennett available for the Semple Stadium showdown.

"They are making great progress. They probably will be in contention for the 26 but they are training hard at the minute," the former Hurler of the Year added.
