It was All-Ireland hurling semi-final day at Croke Park, where Kilkenny put both their minor and senior crowns on the line.
In the feature game at 3:30 (delayed until 3:45), Brian Cody's charges met neighbours Waterford in what promised to be a scintillating Liam MacCarthy Cup penultimate-round encounter. The Cats went into this one as reigning Leinster and All-Ireland champions, while Na Deise are current national league title holders.
The curtain-raiser at 1:30 saw the Black & Amber face up to Galway in an intriguing All-Ireland MHC semi-final. Would it be a day of double delight for the Noresiders or could Derek McGrath's and Jeffrey Lynskey's charges stick some spanners in the well-oiled works?
