McGrath turns attention to championship

Waterford manager Derek McGrath
Shane O'Sullivan's red card was a defining moment in Waterford's defeat by Dublin in the Division 1A relegation play-off.

The Deise finished on the wrong end of the 4-13 to 1-17 scoreline in Walsh Park but, far from being despondent, Derek McGrath says they will dust themselves down and prepare for the Munster SHC.

"We felt that we were control up until the sending off," manager McGrath opined to the Examiner.

"We were able to lock up shop easier when we were here three weeks ago. Given the drying conditions and things hardening up, it was a harder to maintain a siege mentality.

"Dublin used their spare men very well. We are very proud of our lads in terms of the effort and application.

"They just went to the end and we are hopeful going forward for May 25."

McGrath and Deise supporters can also comfort themselves with the fact that injury robbed them of the services of Stephen O'Keeffe, Philip Mahony, Maurice Shanahan, Jake Dillon and Jamie Barron.
