Moylan, Nan

May 10, 2011
In her 100th year Nan Moylan of Dr. Caseyville, Dungaran, widow of the late Waterford hurling legend, Christy, passed peacefully away in the early hours of last Friday day morning.
A member of the Power family of Ballinamuck outside Dungarvan, Nan was a Waterford hurling supporter through and through and took immense pride in the hurling heroics of her husband who played in the 1938 All-Ireland senior final which Waterford lost to Dublin and a decade later was one of the stars of our first ever All-Ireland senior title win when the Dubs again provided the opposition.
Her only son, John, also wore the colours of both Dungarvan and Waterford, and when he subsequently transferred to Cork to take up a job with the then Cork Examiner he played for the famed St. Finbarrs and won a Cork senior hurling championship title with the club.
Nan was the most delightfully pleasant lady you would ever meet, and she continued to enjoy remarkably good health despite her advanced years. Last March she celebrated her 99th birthday and was looking forward to reaching the landmark century milestone.
Alas it was not be, but consolingly for her family her passing was peaceful, and she was laid to rest in St. Mary's Parish cemetery in Dungarvan last following the funeral Mass. To her son John, her daughters, Kay and Mary, and her many other relatives sincerest sympathy is extended.
Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam dilis.
