NFL 4: Waterford gain revenge on Exiles

February 14, 2010
Waterford 1-16
London 0-8

Waterford avenged last year's shock defeat at the hands of London by recording an 11-point victory over the Exiles yesterday at Fraher Field to record their second win in as many games in Division Four.

London had threatened to cause another surprise in the opening stages of this encounter as they moved into a 0-4 to 0-1 lead after the opening quarter, with Cavan native Killian Phair leading the way in the scoring stakes.

However, the home side received their wake-up call shortly after that and seized control as Michael Donnelly, Brian Wall (2) and Conor McGrath all contributed points and full-forward Robert Ahearne bagged the game's only goal to give Waterford a 1-5 to 0-4 lead at half-time.

Despite the loss of midfielder Mick Ahearne to a second caution, John Owens team ran out comfortable winners in the end as they dominated after the restart with McGrath shooting three points, before a late fight back from the visitors led by Phair.
