Dulwich Harps club notes

September 11, 2017

It was successful weekend for our men's team as they produced a professional performance against Tir Chonail Geals to reach the final of the Toureen Junior Championship.

The game was played in perfect conditions in Greenford and after winning the toss the Harps elected to play with the wind the first half. Ciaran Stone opened proceedings with a quick point on the turn and the inside forward line of the Harps were proving difficult to handle. Stone once again tagged over another point this time with the left and a Mickey Clarke point kept the scoreboard ticking over with TCG managing to remain within touching distance through a number of pointed frees.

Then turning point of the game came with 10 mins before the break when Stone collected possession on the left hand side, beat his man and then riffled a shot from distance to beat the TCG goalkeeper. This gave the Blues a five point cushion heading into the break with the scoreline at 1-05 to 0-03.

TCG were quickest of the mark in the second half and got a great point from play down the right wing. Playing into a stiff breeze, the Harps were forced to carry possession and they did this effectively through the half backline of Tim Russell, Damian Rogers and Aaron Higgins. Russell was proving to be a particular thorn in the side of the TCG defence and he broke up the field to get a score himself before great move involving Russell and Devlin allowed Ryan Brolly to dance around the keeper and stick the ball in the net to give the Harps what looked to be an unassailable lead.

The closing moments of the game were seen out by the Harps in assured fashion and they kept the ball well in the second half to counteract the defensive set up of their opponents. In addition to this, the replacement players coming from the bench aided the energy levels of the blues further and they saw out the game as eventual winners on the scoreline of 2-07 to 0-08.

Starting XV;
