Our annual dinner dance took place in the Landmark Hotel on Saturday night and was well attended. Those in attendance were treated to a fine meal with excellent service from the staff before Late Night radio entertained us into the small hours. All our winning teams from last year were presented with their medals both male and female. 

Retiring secretary John Dowd was MC on the night and as usual was in splendid form. John was also a very deserving winner of the Club man of the year award, his second time to scoop this prestigious award. This years hall of fame award went to a former player and great servant of the club throughout his life, the Great Mickey Begley. Mickey continues to support us greatly by allowing the use of his public house for the sale of lotto tickets and our lotto draws. This years junior player of the year award went to a very deserving Padraig O Reilly while Padraig McCormack created history in retaining his senior player of the year award from last year. 

 

The highlight of the night was the presentation to our 1977 intermediate championship winning team. Members of this great team traveled from near and far to accept their awards with Kevin Lennon jetting in from New York for the event. This was the last Killoe team to play in the Intermediate championship and propelled us back to senior status with our lads retaining this level ever since. Well done to all this team and it was great to see them out in such numbers.

 

Thanks to all who attended on the night for making the event such a success, particularly county board chairman Eamon Reilly and his partner Carmel, Fr Sean Casey and especially our guests of honour, the members of the 1977 team. Thanks also to the staff at the Landmark hotel, photographer Gerry Rowley, and all who contributed to making the event a success.

 

Best wishes to Mark Hughes who sustained a nasty injury playing with Longford on Sunday.  We hope to see you back playing in the near future.

 

 

Our health and well being officer has arranged cardiac screening which is available to all our players. Heart Disease develops in silence over many years and is usually very advanced by the time people experience any symptoms. The AMS Cardiac Screening service allows for the detection of underlying conditions that may lead to or cause Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS). Having a cardiac screen can help identify many cardiac abnormalities and in turn save lives.

AMS provide a comprehensive, Doctor-led Cardiac Screening service on-site in schools & clubs nationwide. The service will visit Emmet Óg GAA (Killoe) on February 25th. This Cardiac Screening is mainly targeting people aged between 12 & 40 years. However a significant number of people over this age avail and benefit from the screening as well.

AMS has conducted over 100,000 screenings to date, including the following programmes;

This best in class service is based on the recommendations of the European Society of Cardiology with all cardiac reports reviewed and assessed by our consultant cardiologist. In Italy Cardiac Screening is mandatory for people involved in sport. They have reduced the incidents of SADS by 89% over the past 20 years.

The fee for the Cardiac Screening is heavily discounted to €65. People with LAYA health insurance are able to avail of the cardiac screening for FREE. People with other health insurance may be able to claim a % back at the end of the year. It is tax deductible.

Additionally Claire has been very busy in her role to date and is in the process of setting up a mens shed group. 

A meeting to initiate the group will be set up for Thursday January 26th 2017 at 7.30pm in Emmet Og club house. All men over the age of 18 are welcome. The Men's shed aims to be a welcoming environment for all men who wish to share & learn new skills, participate in community projects, go away on trips or simply have a place to chat. 

On the night a member of the Ballymahon Men's club will join us. He will discuss and show us some of the projects they have participated in, on their own and as part of other organisations eg. tidy towns, local school, church, Christmas festival and St. Patricks day parade. 

 

We hope to see a big uptake on this initiative and it will surely provide a great platform for players, former players and elder members of ur community to stay in touch and remain active within both the club and parish. 

 

 

 

Our Lotto draw took place on Sunday night in The Olde Forge and the numbers drawn were 5,6 29 and 30. There was no jackpot winner. €20 winners were Leah Quinn, Ennybegs,Vincent Lennon, Esker, Darina McGoldrick, Ennybegs, Bracken Family, Esker and Sean O Hara, Drumlish. with this weeks sellers prize going to Margaret McCormack. Next weeks draw for a jackpot of €5,400 will take place on Sunday night in Begleys. In an effort to try and increase the size of our jackpot we have decided that as of the first lotto draw in February to extend our lotto from 30 to 36 numbers. We will be rounding the jackpot up to €6,000 for that draw and hope that the extra numbers will allow the jackpot to grow on beyond the €10,000 figure before it is won.
