Previous Fixture - Intermediate FC Rd2

The seniors made it two from two in the VGC Intermediate Championship in what was a polished performance V St.Brendans.
In blustery conditions at Greenford, the first half got underway and took off at a frantic pace. St.Brendans made the most of their strong wind advantage converting 3 scores without reply, two coming from placed kicks and the other from play - all prior to "The Joes" getting off the mark with a composed shot from Niall McAlynn. The lads pressed on and converted another from Eamonn McGovern after some neat build up play from the back line. Time after time St.Brendans tried to breakdown a solid and organised Joes defence with Liam Clifford, Damien Hanahoe and James Cooper all marshalling their forward counterparts with relative ease. This was reflected on the scoreboard with the Brendans lads only taking another 2 scores in the half, despite having the weather conditions in their favour. From here on in it was all about "The Joes", Firstly David McDonagh striking over a 45 only a number minutes after cousin Luke, attempted what is commonly known as the "Luke Special" i.e. the wrong side of the post. Secondly Kevin Gallagher converting the only major of the game, after another David McDonagh 45' effort came off the post and the Tyrone man was only more than happy to pounce to stick the ball to the net.

HT Score 1-03 to 0-04.

The second half seen a mini Brendans revival as they put some pressure on for the opening 5 minutes of the half and converting a score to leave 1 point between the teams. This Joes side however done in the second period what the Brendans had failed to do in the first - making most of the wind advantage. A number of scores from Niall McAlynn, Eamonn McGovern and one outstanding effort from Dave Kilcullen illustrated this perfectly - putting the Joes in the driving seat mid-way through the second period. A rare break from the Brendans allowed them to convert another score nevertheless with the defence well on top there was only ever going to be one winner from here on in. The introduction Mark McNulty seen him made a sizable impact enabling him to convert another 2 scores alongside Tom Lawrence and James Gart…Oh that one went wide. After the last number of super performances we can forgive you for that one James!! The last score of the day went to probably our best player on the day as Damien Hanahoe had a nosebleed moment and ventured forward to what must be his first score for the Joes. Well done Damo, a good games to scores ratio.

A super win for the Joes lads on the day and puts them safely through to the semi-finals of the competition with a game to spare.
