St Clarets GFC London club notes

November 16, 2015

What a weekend! I hope you've all recovered after a fantastic night on Saturday, although I know it's still been a tough Monday for some.

Our senior team started off the celebrations early as they beat Garryowen in the Division 3 League Final. The final score was 2-4 to 1-5. Paul Myers rolled back the years with a great save (he's thinking of coming out of retirement again next year) and goals from Paul Keenan and Tomas Gilmore ensured we collected another trophy this season. That made it 8 wins out of 8 to preserve our 100% record in the league this year.

The team was: Paul Myers, Matthew Healy, Aidan Donaghy, Padraig Donegan, Ronan Gaughan, Paddy Donaghy, Aidan Bradshaw, Ricky Daly, Sean Killeen, Paul Keenan, John O'Connor, Eamonn Colleran, Ryan O'Connell, Shane Buckley, Lawrence Weir

Subs: Tomas Gilmore, Cormac Fitzpatrick, Eammonn Hughes

This was our final game of the season. Thanks to all the lads for the effort put in this year and as our manager, Tony Murphy, pointed out, to be still getting high numbers turning up in the middle of November is a testament to the squad.

One theory about how Tomas scored his goal is that after only flying back from New York that morning he didn't have the energy in his legs to actually kick the ball over the bar as he intended and the ball dropped short into the goal instead. Tomas was in New York with his girlfriend, one of the famous St Clarets WAGS, Angela Galligan. Angela took part in the New York Marathon recently. This was for Diabetes Ireland and Angela has her own personal message on her page shown via the link provided. Well done Angela!

The celebrations continued on at The Clayton Crown Hotel for our 40th Anniversary Dinner Dance. We'd like to thank the Clayton Crown Hotel for hosting a superb event and putting on a lovely dinner. Thanks to Barry Owen and his band for the music everyone was dancing too. After all the running he did during the game I don't know how Ricky Daly managed to pull off some of his moves on the dancefloor.

We'd also like to especially thank just over 230 of you who turned up and played your part in a special night, including our Guest of Honour and London Chairman, Noel O'Sullivan. We'd also especially those of who made the long journeys from various parts of the UK, Ireland and America.

Thank you to the committee who have spent most of the year organising the dinner dance. Their hard work paid off and we couldn't have done it without them.

Please send in your photos from the night back to us. As one of the club's biggest events in our history we'd like to document this important night. Keep an eye out on our website and our facebook page for these in the coming weeks.
