Hertfordshire Final Preview

September 23, 2015

This coming weekend sees the conclusion of the Hertfordshire Football Championship. The final will be contested between two long time rivals Glen Rovers Watford and Saint Dympnas Luton.

Over the last couple of years Rovers and Dympnas have been two of the best performing clubs within the county competing against each other regularly in Cup finals and later stages of the Championship.

This seasons games have all been close encounters with one win each. Earlier in the year Rovers won in the league but the most recent encounter Dympnas came out on top in Cahill and Hurley Cup.

Saint Dympnas will be looking to avenge their 2013 defeat to Rovers and first championship since 2008, while Rovers are looking to claim back the title they lost to Eire Og Oxford last year.

Their routes to the final were similar if not convincing, Both came through their groups as winners and won their respective semi finals in convincing fashion. Proving they are the two strongest teams within the county this season.

There will be many match ups people are eager to see as this two go up against each other. In the Luton defence young Brendan O'Leary will be looking to keep the Rovers Forward line quiet, Niall O'Reilly and Gary Connolly will be the pace and energy while Simon Donnellan will be looking take advantage of any frees.

In attack for Luton Rovers evergreen Ken Hayes will be rekindling his rivalry with Luke Maloney this is always a fascinating match up and no doubt will continue Sunday, also in attack danger men to watch are Stephen Lavery and Patrick McNamara who has been playing regularly at corner forward this year.
