Six nurses and a hurler have been hailed for saving London captain Brian Regan’s life at Ruislip last weekend.

Kilburn Gaels and Robert Emmetts were doing battle in the London SHC on front of a sizeable crowd at Tony McGovern Park, when just before half time, Gaels player Regan collapsed on the pitch.

Immediately, Kilburn Gaels captain Stephen Lambert started to perform CPR on his team mate, while six nurses came from the sideline to aid.

The nurses Bronwyn Keeshan, Lisa Creamer, Katie Connolly, Caoimhe Staunton, Danielle Harrington and Caoimhe Hogan all played their part in saving the Galway native’s life.

Kilburn Gaels assistant treasurer Sean O’Riordan told the Irish Post that the quick thinking of all concerned made the difference.

“On behalf of the club I want to thank the nurses who worked on Brian straight away and everyone else who responded,” said O’Riordan.

“I saw about 10 people ring for the ambulance. Everyone was very responsive and deserve to be thanked.”

Former London manager Mick O’Dea added that the treatment given to Regan on the pitch, probably saved his life.

“The girls who were there worked tremendously hard to keep him alive until the ambulance came. That girl who gave him CPR saved his life.”
