Thomas McCurtains GAA Club Notes

June 20, 2018

It was a busy week on the pitch for McCurtains with no less than 6 games being played overall. The footballers had a mixed week beating Dulwich with a last minute goal in the League on Tuesday followed by losing out to St Brendans in the Murphy Cup Final on Friday. While on Sunday our reserve footballers fielded for their first game of the season and came away with a win against Dulwich Harps.

The Ladies lost out in their final championship game to Round Towers also on Tuesday. Saturday saw our Camogs draw with Fullen Gales while our U15 Footballers got their second league win against St Clarets. On Sunday

Next weekend our underage teams travel to North London Shamrocks to play a series of blitzes from 10.30am. There are no adult fixtures for the club as we host our Annual Golf Day. It will take place in Ilford Golf Club. First tee off at 10:30am with dinner afterwards in O'Grady's Restaurant at 6.00pm. £50 per golfer £100 to sponsor a hole. There are still spots available so if you are interested in playing please contact Jim McDermott on 07813355776.

Mens Football:

The Footballers had a great win on Tuesday night in their league opener in Peckham Rye. A slow start to the game saw Dulwich Harps open up a 3 point lead with the wind but the Macs battled back to lead by two at the break. There was nothing to seperate the teams in the second half until Conor Murphy struck late for a goal to clinch the game.

Friday saw the first final for the footballers take place in Ruislip. It was a great game from both teams but St brendans had the better of the opening exchanges to lead by 3 at half time. the second half saw McCurtains battle hard and agonislingly come close to scoring a second goal as Sean Murphys shot went inches wide, but Brendans held on to see out the game and retain the Murphy Cup.

On Sunday our reserve/development squad managed by Conor Maunsell and Conor Conneely,  played their first league game against Dulwich Harps in Peckham again. Shane Smyth opened the scoring and it was nip and tuck for the first 15 minutes before goals from Dillon Sheppard and Shane Smyth saw McCurtains build an eleven point lead at half time.  Captain Harry Corkerry lead from the front and kept the scoreboard ticking over as Dulwich looked to stage a comeback. But this was quashed five minutes from the end as Rob Tully and man of the match Dean Corrigan rattled the net for McCurtains third and fourth goals.

Ladies Football:

The Ladies played their last Championship game last Tuesday against Round Towers. It was a great team display but unfortunately they came out on the wrong side of the scoreline in the end. We wish both Round Towers and Kingdom Kerry Gaels all the best in the Final this weekend.

Camogie:

The Camogs travelled up to Birmingham to play Fullen Gaels in the Championship on Saturday. A goal from Amy Walsh in the first half kept the Macs in the game as they went in one point down at half time. However, some great defence and two goals in the second half from McCurtains and the game ended up as a draw.

Underage:

It was a great display of Gaelic Football on Saturday morning as our U15s played St Clarets in the league. Some great attacking play from both sides contirbuted to a high scoreline. The young Macs winning out by two in the end, 5-09 to 6-04.
