Fr. Murphy's Hurling Club Notes

April 23, 2018

Div 2 league, Montrose Park, Fr. Murphy's 2-25 Granuaille 0-10.

A minute's silence was impeccably observed by all in Montrose Park before throw-in in yesterday's game. The silence fell for the recently deceased life president of Fr. Murphy's, Seán Diviney.

It was Granuaille who started the game brightly and they had an goal chance smothered by an experienced Fr. Murphy's defence. From there Fr. Murphy's would go on to dominate the half with Stephen Bardon providing a master class in free-taking and midfield partner Conor Fitzgerald and centre back, Leslie Coughlan getting in on the act from play. At half-time the Murphy's were up by 2-13 to 0-3. Fr. Murphy's carried on where they left off at the start of the second half with Niall Madden adding his second goal of the day and Stephen Bardon providing more joy from placed balls. However, Granuaille found a purple patch near the end with some fine scores from distance. Well done to referee Karl Rodgers who done a good job in his first game.

Fr. Murphy's Scores; S. Bardon 0-11 (6f, 3 65's), N. Madden 3-1 (1-0f), S. Howlin 0-7 (1f), C. Fitzgerald and L. Coughlan 0-3 each, F. Curley and C. Weller 1-0 each.
