Published by Tyrone County Board, GAA. Hardback, 160 pp. Price - £10 (€15) The twenty-four months which followed Tyrone's first All-Ireland senior victory in September 2003 proved to be among the most turbulent, painful, exciting and ultimately fulfilling in the history of Gaelic games in the county. This book tells the story of those two years, covering the tragic death of the team captain, Cormac McAnallen, the loss of the Ulster and All-Ireland titles in 2004, the Ulster final defeat of 2005, and the glorious achievement of winning the county's second senior All-Ireland title in three years in September 2005. It includes a detailed account of Tyrone's ten championship games of 2005 and captures for posterity something of the atmosphere of excitement and exhilaration of the hard road which led to Tyrone's second All-Ireland triumph. It also contains 24 pages of colour photographs, including the McKenna Cup winning team captained by Cormac McAnallen, the 2004 All-Ireland minor champions, and action shots from the 2005 All-Ireland senior campaign. This book continues the story of The GAA in Tyrone which was first published in 1984 and subsequently updated in 2003 on the occasion of Tyrone's first Senior All-Ireland victory. The GAA in Tyrone: The Long Road to Glory 1884-2003 Joseph Martin When The GAA in Tyrone was first published in 1984, it was acknowledged as one of the finest publications of the GAA's centenary year. This second edition subtitled The Long Road To Glory was published to mark the centenary of the establishment of the first Tyrone County Board in January 1904 and to celebrate Tyrone's first senior All-Ireland victory in 2003. It was revised and fully updated to include the great achievements of the previous two decades, and tells the story of the first one hundred years of Gaelic games in Tyrone - years of dogged determination, of sometimes bitter disappointment and ultimately of glorious success. Thoroughly researched and written in an eminently readable style, it is a mine of information on every aspect of the Association in Tyrone. It traces the history of the growth and development of Gaelic games in Tyrone from the earliest times. It tells of the personalities involved and the difficulties which had to be overcome to keep the Association alive in the county. It recalls the early triumphs at minor level in 1947 and 1948, the breakthrough in Ulster in 1956 and 1957, the unsuccessful appearances in the All-Ireland finals in 1986 and 1995, and ends with the winning of the Sam Maguire Cup in September 2003. It is widely acclaimed as the most comprehensive and accessible account of the GAA in Tyrone and as the standard reference work on Gaelic games in the county. In addition to tracing the history of the GAA in the county, the book contains 32 pages of colour photographs of Tyrone's successful teams. It also includes: ¥ Tyrone senior team lists for every year in which Tyrone took part in the Ulster senior football championship since 1904; ¥ Lists of all Tyrone's Ulster and All-Ireland championship winning teams; ¥ A complete record of Tyrone championship winners at every level since 1904; ¥ Tyrone's record in Ulster and All-Ireland senior football championships since 1904; ¥ A brief summary of the history and achievements of each club in Tyrone.
