"People can make their own minds up on it, but it was shocking"

Derry's Brendan Rogers

Derry manager Damian Barton says Brendan Rogers will be given time to recover from the "quite horrific" facial injury sustained against Tyrone.

The Oak Leaf midfielder required 14 stitches in the wound after being struck after throw-in in last month's McKenna Cup final and Barton won't be rushing the Slaughtneil dual operator back into action.

"I'm not sure, the last thing he needs is another crack in the facial area because it was quite horrific at the time," the 1993 All-Ireland winner told The Irish Examiner.

"Even pyschologicially he's got to work his way in through training and so on.

"I'd prefer not to say too much about it. People can make their own minds up on it, but it was shocking."
