Harte handed two-year extension

Tyrone manager Mickey Harte
Mickey Harte will continue as Tyrone manager until the end of the 2012 season at least after his request for a two-year extension to his contract was approved by the Tyrone county board. The three-time All-Ireland winning boss was due to enter the final year of his current deal in 2010, but asked county chiefs a few weeks ago for an extension which was ratified last night. The new deal means Harte will serve 10 years in the hotseat, having taken over the reins from the joint-management team of Eugene McKenna and Art McRory at the end of 2002. Tyrone PRO Damien Harvey confirmed that Harte's request had received the full backing of the county board. "It was proposed and seconded, and there was no counter-proposal," he said.
