Strabane Sigersons club notes

August 21, 2019

Senior Men;

Well done to our senior men who defeated Newtownstewart in a Local Derby on Sunday past, Sigersons emerged 2-9 to 1-8 winners after a very tight game. Sigersons led 1-6 to 1-4 at the break with Warner Mullen grabbing the first half goal for Strabane, the second half was as tight as the first but Haydn McNamee’s managed to scrambled a ball to the Newtownstewart goal 10 minutes from the end to give Sigersons the much needed cushion to earn another two points.

Sigersons Scorers; Warner Mullen (1-5), Haydn McNamee (1-1), Ruairi Gormley (0-1), Ruairi McElroy (0-1) & Brian Breslin (0-1).

Sigersons reserves also defeated Newtownstewart on Sunday evening, the full time score was 1-16 to 1-4. The Sigersons line up was very young but mixed with one or two older heads such as Anthony McMenamin & Sean Barkley to give the younger players that much needed experience on the pitch. Sigersons took a 10-0 lead in at the break after an excellent first half performance with Adamh Devine, Aaron McGrath, Jake O’Neill, Shaun McGlade and Connor O’Hagan all scoring. A Connor O’Hagan goal in the second half finished the game as a contest and points from Eamonn Dudgeon, Gavin O’Kane, Adamh Devine and Aaron McGrath gave Sigersons the much needed victory.

This Sunday our senior men will travel to play Clogher at 6pm, there will be no reserve game. All Support is much appreciated.

Senior Ladies;

Well done to our senior ladies who finished their 2019 Division 3 campaign with a victory away to Rock on Friday on a score line of 2-12 to 2-10. The girls narrowly missed out on a play off place but it was a great performance from the ladies all year. Thanks also to team manager Ryan McElroy who put in a lot of hard work throughout the season.

Youth Football;

Our Under 16 boys drew 1-10 apiece with Omagh on Thursday night past in a very entertaining game, Sigersons led at the break but Omagh had a second half purple patch brought them back into the game which set up an exciting end.

Our Under 16 boys will face Carrickmore at Páirc Mhíc Sioghair on Saturday at 11am.

The Under 16 girls will host Badoney on Friday night in Páirc Mhíc Sioghair at 7pm, all support for the girls much appreciated.

Best Wishes;

Everyone at Strabane Sigersons would like to wish club player Eoghan Farrell our best wishes and a speedy recovery after undergoing an operation on Tuesday.

The club would like to extend our best wishes to Sigersons ladies player Aimee McColgan and hope that she makes a speedy recovery after last Friday’s league game v Rock.
