Competition for places drives Sludden

Tyrone forward Niall Sludden believes the fact no player on the team is guaranteed a starting spot is driving them all on.

The Ulster side opened their Super 8’s account with a win over Roscommon at Dr Hyde Park last weekend, and this Saturday, they head for Croke Park to take on Cork in round two.

A win here would almost certainly guarantee them a place in the semi-finals as they continue to impress following their poor performance in the Ulster SFC semi-final.

They look like a side growing in confidence with each performance and Sludden is in no doubt that the competition for places is so fierce that everyone is giving their all.

“From a personal point of view it was a lot better and it’s good that way but like everything else you are always under pressure to perform,” Sludden told the Ulster Herald.

“You can see the quality on our bench so if you are not performing you are not going to be on the team. It’s a whole squad effort.”
