Philly McMahon says he can't understand the criticism Dublin manager Jim Gavin received after the team's All-Ireland victory last September.

In interviews after the Dubs' victory over Mayo, Gavin appeared unmoved and while that drew criticism from certain corners McMahon suggests that the Round Towers clubman is simply reserved by nature.

"Nobody can actually argue with the way Jim is, the way he manages. With the success he's had? I don't get it. How can you?" McMahon stated following his book 'The Choice' being named the eir Sports Book of the Year.

"You can't argue with someone who has won what he has won with us. And the respect that he has gained from the players, from people who know who he is, what he's about."

"This fella is a different style of manager, so that's wrong, isn't it? No, it's not wrong. He's won things, so the way he does it is working."
