Wexford manager Davy Fitzgerald believes that his side need to hit the ground running in Sunday’s Leinster SHC final against old rivals Kilkenny.

The Slayneysiders played in the Leinster final two years ago when Galway defeated them in 2017, but for some of their players this will be a first provincial decider.

Croke Park has become a second home for Kilkenny teams over the years and Fitzgerald knows that the Cats will want to blitz his charges early on.

“It’s important how we handle the occasion. It’s a huge occasion for the players, but they should benefit from being there in 2017, in the final against Galway. Should they settle and cope with the occasion, everything will be fine,” Fitzgerald told the Wexford People.

“We have a realistic chance, we have a real chance of winning, of that there is no doubt. The drawn game was massive, the hits went in hard and fast, but we coped. Now can we repeat that?

“I feel we can and bring it up another level. No doubt Kilkenny will be feeling the same, but we’ll just think about ourselves at this time.”
