Murray-Hession looking forward

Leitrim and Lancashire will cross swords in Croke Park

Lancashire manager Stan Murray-Hession believes there is no point dwelling on last year’s Lory Meagher final loss as they prepare for Saturday’s decider against Leitrim at Croke Park.

A late Sligo goal saw them lift the title and leave Lancashire hearts broken. However, 12 months later and they are back in the final again, but Murray-Hession stressed to the Irish Post that redemption is not their priority.

“You can’t live in the past and no matter what happens on June 22nd it won’t change June 23rd last year – that result will still be the same. Sligo would still have won by a point,” said Murray-Hession.

“I guess nobody wants to go back to the feeling we had after that final, but win, lose or draw 2018’s result will be 2018’s and 2019’s will be 2019’s.

“For some of the guys they will want to get a result that’s better than the last time, but it’s different opposition, different teams, several new players on both teams.

“Everyone has their own individual motivations and reasons for being there. The simple fact is that everyone wants to play at the pinnacle of the season and then play in the final game of the season where the silverware is decided. That’s probably sufficient motivation for me to keep me at it.”
