Kilkenny hurling goalkeeper Eoin Murphy hopes to play the rest of his intercounty career under the guidance of legendary Cats boss Brian Cody.

Cody has confirmed that he will be remaining at the Black & Amber helm for a 21st campaign and four-times All-Ireland winner Murphy wants him to stay on for many more years beyond 2019:

“I'm still young, I'm only 28 now so hopefully he'll stay around for another five or six years and see me out,” the Glenmore clubman told The Irish Daily Mirror

“As Brian says himself, the Kilkenny hurling team is always going to keep moving on and if you don't want to be part of that, someone will come in and take your position.

“I'm sure he'll be the first to say it as well, as soon as he steps aside the Kilkenny hurling team will have to move on and that's just the way it'll be.

“There was going to be no issue there, I'd say he was offered it a couple of months ago and it was only confirmed in the last few weeks but that's the way it is and I'm really looking forward to next year.”

Eoin Murphy was speaking at the launch event for the Amanda Stapleton Benefit Match: The Legends Return - Kilkenny v Tiipperary which takes place on November 3 in Borrisoleigh.
