Kevin Gilmartin was the hero as Sligo snatched victory from the jaws of defeat in today's Lory Meagher Cup final at Croke Park.

The Yeats County's full-forward netted a hat-trick of goals and his third, which arrived in stoppage time, proved to be the difference between the sides at the final whistle as it finished Sligo 4-15, Lancashire 2-20.

Eoin Comerford also raised a green flag for the winners via the penalty spot in the opening period and the sides went in level at the break - Sligo 3-7, Lancashire 2-10.

Ronan Crowley and Edmond Kenny were responsible for the Exiles' goals and that pair accounted for 1-10 and 1-7 respectively of the losing side's total.

Comerford, meanwhile, also sent over five points for the Keith Raymond captained outfit while Gilmartin's 71st minute goal decided an entertaining contest.

Sligo dual star Gerard O'Kelly Lynch was fouled for Comerford's successful penalty and he now has to make his way to Markievicz Park to tog out for the footballers in their qualifier clash with Armagh which is scheduled to get underway at 6pm.
