Classy Tipperary defender Ciaran McDonald has been forced to retire from inter-county football due to ongoing injury problems.
The sad news was revealed at last night's presentation of Allianz Football League Division 3 medals to the Tipperary footballers in the Clonmel Park Hotel.
Rated as one of the best defenders ever to play for Tipp, the Aherlow clubman made the first of 20 senior championship appearances against Limerick in 2008. He captained Tipp to their first ever Munster U21FC title in 2010 following a famous victory over Kerry in Tralee, and also represented Ireland in the 2014 International Rules series.
His final appearance in the blue and gold jersey came against Mayo in last year's All-Ireland SFC semi-final, which was Tipp's first appearance at that stage of the championship in 81 years.
