Tipperary manager Michael Ryan feels that the NHL is an important part of preparation for the remainder of the year.

The Tipp management have been busy preparing the side for their opening encounter against Dublin at Semple Stadium on Saturday evening.

And Ryan told the Tipperary Star that it was essential to hit the ground running, starting with this weekend's clash against an in-form Dublin side.

"We see the league as an important part of our progression and we want to get to the knockout stage of the league," said Ryan.

"That's the purpose of the league, as far as I am concerned - we have got to see what a few of the players are like. We will be trying players, but we will also be competing. The league is down a target. And, any game we go out to play in we will be going out to win."
