New Tipperary football manager Liam Kearns has suffered a blow with the news that Seamus Kennedy is to concentrate on hurling next year.

The Irish Daily Star reports that the 22-year-old dual player, who has played a starring role for Clonmel Commercials in their run to Sunday week's Munster club SFC final against Nemo Rangers, will commit to the Tipp hurlers in 2016 after featuring for the footballers in this year's championship campaign.

Kearns could yet lose another dual star, Steven O'Brien, to the hurlers, who are now under the management of Michael Ryan. O'Brien was outstanding at midfield for the Tipp U21 footballers as they reached the All-Ireland final earlier this year. Another key member of that team, Colin O'Riordan, recently signed a two-year international rookie contract with the Sydney Swans.

Meanwhile, 1995 All-Ireland U21 winning captain Brian Horgan will serve as goalkeeping coach in Michael Ryan's new senior hurling management set-up. The Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams clubman, who was involved with Kerry last year, will also continue in his role as Templederry Kenyons manager.
