Has Ross retired. Best sligo defender in last 10 years. Should have got an all star or at least made the compromise rules

Ross is unbelievable....That shoulder he hit the mayo forward in the square in the Connaught final you could feel it around the world...if he was playing for any other county they would be telling about how many games he played and what an achievement it was..

Ross should have got an All star back in 2010 and a few nominations but had no media presence (and for that I am grateful)which is evident (if he has retired) from the GPA not sending anything out (a bit like James Stafford of Wicklow) . Those of us attending the games knew he was our most dependable back who always gave his best.

Best Sligo back over the last 8-9 years in Sligo by a country mile. Carried Harps to their last co final from full back and an absolute gent to club mentors when he visits clubs. And the surest sign of how good he is, is the fact that all the kids loves his training sessions.

If it is the last at co level thanks Ross from all in Castleconnor.

(and for those of us on the border that shoulder is still brought up when having "banter" with the Mayo boyos

An absolute gentleman on off the field. The best sligo defender of the last 15 years in my opinion. Had very few flaws if any and I struggle to remember a game or an opponent where he didn't win more than his fair share of ball. Always a pleasure sharing the field with or against him. Will be missed massively but if anyone deserves a break it's definitely Ross.

Toughest corner back in the country. That infamous shouder agsinst mayo, what about James masters broken jaw from a fair tackle, or the tipp forward last year that was knocked out and game held up till ambulance arrived.... As tough as he was he was fair. I never saw him get a straight red

Carew has stated that he hopes to have Ross back later in the year - hopefully he makes a return at that stage. An incredible servant for Sligo football for over 10 years now. Others may have taken the spotlight but Ross has always been consistently excellent in what is a very difficult position. First half against Mayo in the Connaught final 2012 he almost single-handedly kept Sligo in the match and that hit on Jason Doherty (who is not a small man) when through on goal is one of the best shoulder tackles you are likely to see.
