Why are we so poor at football. It can't be all about the size of the county. Tru we are a small county but that has its advantages as half an hour or 40 mins will bring you from most areas to centre of excellence for dev squads so we can't say that the best players are too far removed and can't travel.
Other counties with similar population is ahead of us. Kilkenny hasn't a big population and look at the hurlers they have.
Then you have kerry a big county with sparse population in areas and poor roads.
Donegal were going nowhere till Jim Mc Guinness took over.
The 3 counties I have mentioned have all one thing in common. There is no soccer worth talking about.
Is that our problem.
Are we losing our best players to soccer

Yes, 40 mins will get you to most places in sligo. But, how many players live in Sligo? Most players I know are based in Galway/Dublin due to work/college and travel home for football. Praising our bad roads won't get us anywhere.

I believe we are losing alot of players around the 19-21 mark. Lads go to college and what not and then you have league and championship competitions with little structure always getting chopped and changed. You couldn't blame lads for not wanting to train 9 months of the year and have games thrown all over the place.

As a 21 year old, grassroots, you have said it perfectly. The way games can seemingly be cancelled, and put on whenever the county board like, definitely makes lads like myself question whether or not all the training, and booking off work for games is worth it, when we can never be sure if they'll actually go ahead

Eoinog, Kilkenny pop is 100,000 Kerry is 145,000 Donegal is 161,000 Sligo is 65,000.

True we have a smaller pool to pick from but the real reason we are now headed for the doldrums is leadership at the top.
The Clubs elect the officers of the Co Board so the calibre of candidate elected is the responsibility of the Clubs and no amount of talk or waffle will change that fact.
