Drumcliffe Rosses Point GAA Club Notes

August 24, 2015

Heartiest congratulations to the U12 hurlers who retained the U12A title at Markievicz Park last Friday evening with victory over a gallant Naomh Eoin side on a final scoreline of 11 points to 7.  The players have made history as they are the first hurling team from the club to retain a trophy. Well done to all 17 panel members involved.  Particular thanks go to the parents for their support, and to Davis's Restaurant for providing the post-match food and refreshments. The win caps a fine year for the U12 team as they remained unbeaten in Sligo and also reached a Connacht semi-final earlier in the season.

The senior men's team resume their Belfry Senior Club Championship campaign this Sunday with a home match against Group 3 leaders Tourlestrane. Throw-in at Oxfield is at 1pm. Your support would be appreciated for this key championship fixture.

Our intermediate ladies recorded their second consecutive win in the championship on Sunday with a 2-18 to 3-3 win over Owenmore Gaels. They face St Mary's at Kent Park this Sunday morning at 10am. Victory would ensure a place in the county semi-finals.

Congrats to our minor ladies footballers who are through to the Minor A Championship final. Despite losing their concluding group match to Eastern Harps last Tuesday, the team has qualified for the county decider and will face either Eastern  Harps or St Nathy's on September 13th.

The boys minor footballers were unlucky to lose narrowly to Owenmore Gaels last Thursday evening on a scoreline of 3-8 to 0-16. We were leading by three points at half-time, but three second-half goals from the Gaels turned the contest. The team can still qualify for the quarter-finals of the minor championship but are now depending on results elsewhere.

Club player Keith Collery was our representative in a novel race at the Sligo GAA Race Day last Tuesday. Keith was one of a dozen footballers to take part in the EJ Menswear one-mile around the racecourse. In front of a couple of thousands racing spectators, the players completed a lap of the course. While Keith didn't win on this occasion, we have high hopes for him at Cheltenham next March! Thank you to all those DRP club members who supported the Sligo GAA Race Day last week.

The Boys U14 footballers face Castleconnor (away) in the Championship Shield semi-final this Friday evening at 7.

After a short summer break, the club's weekly GAA nursery resumes in Oxfield this Saturday, August 29th. U6 training starts at 9:45am. U8 & U10 at 10:30am. New players are always welcome.

The new club lotto draws for June and July will take place at Oxfield on Sunday at the senior championship match. Any remaining tickets for inclusion must be returned to club treasurer Gerard Carroll by 12 noon on Sunday. A reminder too that tickets are now on sale for the club's annual All-Ireland Final Premium Ticket draw next month.

The club extends sympathy to Seamus Watters, Castletown, following the recent death of his mother Ita.
