New SFC format to be discussed

December 03, 2014

This year's Sligo GAA convention will see a motion put forward to change the format of the senior and intermediate football championship.

The Eastern Harps club have called for a change and they have put forward the idea of seeing four groups of three teams, which would come about through and open draw.

Home and away games would be played in the groups with sides finishing level on points being separated by their head to head meetings.

The top two teams then go forward to the quarterfinals, which are to be played at neutral venues.

The St Pat's club have also called for a review of the current format in the senior and intermediate championships.
