The 2014 senior football championship which is being played under a new format this year begins this weekend.

Fifteen teams will battle it to be crowned champions, but defending champions Portlaoise will not be in action this weekend as they have a bye.

Under the new format, one team is to receive a bye from the relegation play-off, while seven teams are to go into the losers' section, one of which will be drawn randomly to receive a bye into round three.

Two teams are to be relegated at the end of the year with the aim to reduce the number of teams in the senior championship to 12. Tweet
