Roscommon hurling board chairman Christy McDermott has praised Justin Campbell for his efforts over the past three years.

Campbell has decided to step down from his role as Roscommon senior hurling manager having taken over the job at the end of 2013.

The former Galway hurler steered the Rossies to a Nicky Rackard Cup success last year after defeating Armagh by a single point at Croke Park.

The Kiltormer man also won a National League title along with a Connacht intermediate crown and led the county's hurlers to the All-Ireland U21 B final in 2014 in Thurles, where they lost out to Kildare.

Speaking to the Roscommon Herald, McDermott said: "The board is disappointed to lose a manager of such quality, but fully respect his decision.

"Justin is very busy in his work as an addiction counsellor and feels that he can't manage two jobs at the moment. We have to compliment Justin in his dedication to this work, which hopefully helps clients and their families.

"Roscommon hurling has enjoyed three great years under the leadership of Justin. He has been a pleasure to work with and he all of his energy into Roscommon hurling."
