Curran glad to have Brigid's game "out of the way"

St Brigid's Shane Curran celebrates a late goal.

Padraig Pearses boss Shane Curran admits it wasn't easy facing his former St. Brigid's team-mates last Sunday.

The recently-retired goalkeeper's first Roscommon SFC match as a manager ended in a 1-11 to 3-12 defeat to the club he helped to All-Ireland glory in 2013.

"I felt more trepidation around the game than I had expected," 'Cake' writes in this week's Westmeath Independent.

"I was delighted to get it out of the way to be honest, particularly when I was coming up against players I have a lot of respect for. But every day is a learning day and I have certainly learned from the experience. We know look forward with confidence to the next challenge against Clann na nGael in a few weeks' time."

Curran added: "Our bench wasn't strong enough, as we were missing six or seven players from our squad, but the lads put everything on the line and we felt we were right in the game until Brigid's scored two goals towards the end of the first half."
