O'Donnell felt change was necessary

Roscommon manager Fergal O'Donnell

Fergal O'Donnell has revealed his reasons for stepping down as Roscommon minor football manager.

O'Donnell has been something of a messiah at minor level in the county winning an All-Ireland title, while guiding the side to numerous Connacht titles as well as last year's All-Ireland semi-final and this year's quarterfinal.

However, following much deliberation, he has stood down from the position and told the Roscommon Herald that he feels that it is someone else's turn to bring them on to the next level.

He said: "I've spent my time concentrating on whether I would stay on as minor manager. We felt it was time to give someone else a go at the job."

O'Donnell has been linked to a few other inter-county managerial vacancies in recent weeks, but it remains to be seen what his next move will be.
