Kerry joined Dublin on eight points on the Allianz Football League Division 1 table after holding off Roscommon’s late rally for a 1-17 to 1-11 victory at Dr Hyde Park this afternoon.

Having increased their four-point interval lead to six with just under 20 minutes to go, the Munster champions looked to be cruising to their fourth win until Cathal Heneghan punched in a superb goal for the hosts.

Points from Ronan Daly and Donie Smith closed the gap down to three for the Rossies as the game moved into six minutes of injury-time.

Paul Geaney would fire over the next score however to steady the Kingdom’s ship and a fisted Joe O’Connor goal in the fourth minute of injury-time ensured that the points would be heading down south.

The result leaves Kerry right in the shake up for another Division 1 final berth ahead of the final rounds of games next weekend, while Roscommon will need a win away to Derry from round seven if they are to hold on to their topflight status.
