DIVISION 1 FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Raheen Senior Footballers picked up their first competitive win of the year seeing off the challenge of Shamrocks in the final round of the Div 1 League last Wednesday evening in Geashill on a scoreline of 2-14 to 1-08. Raheen got off to a good start creating most of the early chances but after 10 mins both sides were off the mark with 2 points apiece. The next 10 mins saw just a single point for Raheen from Niall Dempsey who was forced off moments later with a dislocated shoulder and the club would like to wish him a speedy recovery. The final 10 mins of the half saw Raheen add 4 points along with a goal in stoppage time from Richie Reynolds who got in to punch a crossing ball to the net. Shamrocks responded immediately with a goal of their own from full forward Packie Walsh and so at the break Raheen led 1-07 to 1-02. Both sides added 4 points apiece inside the first 15 mins of the second half to keep the gap at 5 points with Raheen adding another on 20 mins. Raheen were awarded a penalty for a footblock with about 8 mins left but Mark Gorman's shot rebounded off the post. Then in the last 5 mins both sides again added 2 more points apiece before Raheen finally made sure of it on the stroke of full time when alike the first half Riche Reynolds was on hand to get both his and Raheen's second goal. Despite the win Raheen finish the league bottom of the group on scoring difference and so will face Durrow in a relegation playoff.
