Intermediate Championship

Daingean 0-14 Clonbollogue 0-12

Daingean got their intermediate championship campaign back on track with a hard fought victory against Clonbollogue last Sunday evening in Ballyfore. Daingean started the game brightly with Shane Tierney pointing the opening two scores of the game thanks to some good work from Jamie Hayes. Clonbollogue quickly responded by levelling matters and there was never more than the minimum between the teams for the remainder of the first half until a Jamie Hayes point saw Daingean lead by two at the interval. The second half followed a similar pattern to the first with both teams adopting an attractive direct style of play with little between the teams throughout. Tierney, who ended the day with a total of 6 points was a constant thorn is Clonbollogues side as he continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over for Daingean. A monster point from Charlie Hayes with the outside of his right foot put Daingean ahead once again midway through the second half but three unanswered points from Clonbollogue saw them lead by 10 points to 9 soon after. Daingean looked like they had secured victory when substitutes Tom Fay and David Feely gave Daingean a two point lead entering the final moments of the game however Daingean had veteran goalkeeper Conan Curley to thank as he made an outrageous one handed save low to his left when it looked like Clonbollogue were about the secure the only goal of the game. Tierney settled matters at the end with a point which saw Daingean win by a two point margin.
