SENIOR B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

With both sides already through to the Senior B Championship Semi Finals with 2 wins out of 2 each there was little at stake as Raheen faced Tubber in the final round last Friday evening in Clara and it was Tubber who claimed the win on a scoreline of 1-14 to 1-08. Tubber were first off the mark with the opening point but Raheen opened theri account with a goal on 3 mins when Padraig Bracken won a kickout in midfield, sending a highball in to Dylan Hyland in the corner who weaved his way into the square before laying it off to John Crombie to shoot to the net. Thereafter for the remainder of the half both sides added 6 points each which saw Raheen lead at the break 1-06 to 0-07 but at least 6 wides by Raheen in the final 10mins of the half would prove costly in the end. Tubber came out the stronger in the second half hitting 4 points in a row within 10 mins to go in front and Raheen's hope was reduced midway through the half with the dismissal of Dylan Hyland on a second yellow and a further 1-03 for Tubber to Raheen's 0-02 in the remaining 15 mins sealed the win for Tubber. Raheen will now face Cappincur in the Senior B Semi Final on Saturday 17 September.

JUNIOR B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Raheen Junior Footballers also suffered Championship defeat last weekend as they lost out to Tullamore in Rd 3 of the Junior B Championship on Sunday morning in Geashill on a scoreline of 3-19 to 1-08 and now must win their last 2 games to remain in contention to qualify for the semi final. Raheen were on the backfoot from the off as they were already 1-02 down when Conor McNally put over their first point on 8 mins. Thereafter for the remainder of the half Tullamore added 1-07 to Raheen's 0-04 to lead at the break 2-09 to 0-05. Things didn't get any better in the second half as Tullamore added a further 1-10 to Raheen's 1-03 with the Raheen goal being one of the few positives a fine induvidual effort by Stephen Pierce as he picked up the ball just inside the 45 and headed straight for goal before blasting the ball to the net.

Na Fianna club notes

U16 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Na Fianna U16 Footballers got the win they needed to almost certain clinch their place in the A Championship Semi Finals as they had plenty to spare against the group's bottom side Ballycumber / Tubber in their final round meeting last Monday week in Ballycumber on a scoreline of 7-15 to 0-02. In the first half the ball hardly left the Ballycumber half as Na Fianna racked up the scores ammassing a tally of 5-08 without a single reply from Ballycumber with the goals shared between Craig Strong (3) and Mark Dillon (2). With a 23 point lead Na Fianna brought on their full quota of 6 subs early in the second half and a number of them put themselves into consideration for the team for the semi final as they contributed to Na Fianna's second half haul of 2-07 with the goals coming from Mark Dillon to also complete his hattrick and Shane O'Rourke. With 5 mins left it was looking like Ballycumber would complete the game scoreless but a min later they got off the mark with a point and then with the last kick of the game they put over a 20m free. With all the other teams in the group still having 1 more round of games to play the pairings for the semi finals are not yet finalised but it looks like Na Fianna will play Ferbane / Belmont.
