Division 1 League Champions !!

Rhode Senior Footballers picked up their first piece of silverware of 2016 when they bet Clara by 1 point it a closely fought battle last Tuesday night in Walsh Island.  Rhode were down by 4 points at Half-time as Clara looked to be in full control. Rhode however had different ideas scoring 1-2 in the space of 5 minutes . Rhode kicked on and at one stage were five points ahead but Clara clawed back and had a goal chance in the dying minutes but thankfully nothing came from it and Rhode held on to win by a point 1-17 to 19 to pick up the Casey Cup named after Two Rhode Legends Mick and Paddy Casey.

Division 1  2015 League Medal Presentation:

On Friday night last Rhode Senior Footballers collected last year's league medals in front of family and friends. Special Guest on the night was one of our own John Beezy Glennon who has given nearly 40 years of service to Rhode GAA as a player and Administrator serving in many roles. Before the medal presentation we sat down to a lovely meal and then the presentation taking place with Chairman Seamus Maguire Opening proceedings thanking the players and management for their service and speaking highly of John Glennon. MC Jody Gunning got the presentation calling on each player one by one to receive their medals. The final speaker was John Glennon speaking of the honour of been asked to present the medals and  Paying special  Tribute to the players  management. All that was left was for everyone to enjoy their night listening to the great music.

Rhode GAA would like to Thank Colm Killeen and his staff for the excellent food and hospitality on Friday night. Stephen Lynam  for the excellent music and Rhode members who helped decorate Killeens for Friday night.  A special thanks to John Glennon for presenting the medals and for his continues Service to the club.

U16 B Championship Result

Rhode U16s got their first win of the year beaten Clara on a score line of 8-7 to  5-7 on Monday evening last. Well Done to both players and management and hopefully a winning streak can  continue .

Adam Mangan Memorial Tournament

On Saturday morning last Rhode held Group A Matches    of the Adam Mangan Memorial Cup.

Group A:
Sligo, Tyrone,  Kildare  and Meath.

Rhode hosting was well Coordinated by Offaly fixture Secretary Mary Dunne who was present on behalf of Offaly GAA. 

All the team's played some excellent games with each having to play each other for a place in the Cup Semi final which Meath took impressively after winning  all there games in Rhode. Meath lost out to Dublin in the Semi final which took place in O'Connor park Tullamore. Dublin were beaten by Roscommon in the Cup Final.  

Rhode GAA would like to Thank Offaly GAA for giving us the opportunity to host the games and to our fellow members for helping on the day. Patricia McManus,  Tracey Murphy,  Aoife McManus and the Murphy boys for providing Refreshments on the day which was much enjoyed by the visiting parents and supporters.  Robert kellaghan for keeping an eye on the dressing rooms , John Glennon for Traffic and Umpiring.  Chairman Seamus Maguire and Secretary Ger Hynes for also umpiring on the day. A special mention to Referee Bill Glennon on an excellent refereeing display and Club Physio Martha Kellaghan on been on hand in the field for first aid.

Lotto

There was no winner of the Rhode GAA Lotto Draw that took place on the 8th of August for a Jackpot of €15,000.  The numbers drawn were 9 15 18 24.  The club would like to thank all those who supported the draw and thanks to Killeen for the use of their premises and for their help and cooperation.  The following matched three numbers and received €200

 The Rhode GAA Lotto is the main source of income the club has and now you can play online though our website.  The good news is when you play the lotto online you are entitled to free draws, for example pay for seven draws receive the eighth one free, pay for fourteen draws receive two free and so on.  In other words, the more you play the more free draws you are entitled to!!
