Waterford 1-7

Despite taking to the Dungarvan field without their talisman Niall McNamee, Offaly bounced back from the disappointment of their Leinster SFC defeat to Longford with a 13 point victory over Waterford.

A broken finger robbed Pat Flanagan of the Rhode sharpshooter's service but in his absence his team-mates secured the Faithful County's first championship win since 2011.

The visitors were quick out of the traps and had five points on the board before Mark Ferncombe opened the Deise's account.

A Joey Veale goal helped the home side overcome their slow start and they turned around for the second-half just one point in arrears, 1-5 to 0-9.

With Nigel Dunne, who finished the contest with eight points (four frees) to his name, prominent, the Leinster outfit regained the initiative during the third quarter.

Anton O'Sullivan's 65th minute goal applied the gloss to Offaly's victory and they now turn their attention to Monday morning's second round draw.
