Offaly GAA has received planning permission to begin work on its Centre of Excellence near Kilcormac.

The news comes less than a month after the launch of the ambitious project took place. Offaly are to receive €1 million from Croke Park towards the cost of the development, while the Leinster Council will also contribute €275,000 reports Midlands Radio. The development is set to cost €1.9 million in total, and Offaly chiefs remain hopeful of receiving further funding via the Sports Capital Programme.

Last month's launch saw the transfer of the lease on a 21-acre site on the outskirts of Kilcormac from Offaly County Council to Offaly GAA. The Offaly county board recently obtained a 999-year lease at an annual cost of €1.
