U16's BOW OUT AT Q/F STAGE
Our Eden Claims sponsored U16 footballers travelled to Ballinamere last Monday to play Ferbane/Belmont in the quarter final of the championship. The match was played under lights on a near perfect pitch and credit to Ballinamere for the use of there fantastic facilities.

The game started cagey enough with both teams trying to settle into the game with both sides missing some kickable scores . But when both teams did settle they served up what can only described as pure football at its best. Edenderry's forwards were causing havoc but just couldn`t get the scores on the board hitting the upright ( twice ) and crossbar in quick succession. It was only a matter of time before we got going. And it did happen with Cian Farrell & Connor Maher kicking lovely points from play ,and Jack Foran slotting away a well taken goal and adding a point also .Unfortunately for us Ferbane/Belmont on the other hand were picking off their scores & got a dubious penalty which they scored followed up by another a well taken goal which was against the run of play and went in at half time leading 2-06 to 1-03.

Edenderry regrouped and took to the field in the second half with fire and passion with one change to the line-up with the introduction of Craig Mangan for the injured Steven McNamee.  The young Reds from the start had the never say die attitude and got off to a great start which rattled Ferbane/Belmont. The backs were out winning balls in front , midfielders working their socks off and the forwards showing for the ball ,we were right back in the game and closed the score down to 2 points ,an upset was a possibility with Cian & Jack getting a good supply of ball from our halfbacks and midfielders we got another goal.

Ferbane/Belmont then made a couple of changes and hit a purple patch and got a couple of unanswered scores to open up a nice lead of 0-9 points.  Captain Andy Moloney lead by example winning dirty ball when it counted and this in return gave the lads a lift, with Eoin Dunne Garry Farrell and Eoin Farrell`s drive, the ball was back in their half and we finished strong. But unfortunately it was`t to be and Ferbane/Belmont ran out winners on the night on a score line, that from an Edendeery point isn't a true reflection of how close a game it was by 5-10 to 3-08.

The squad travelled on the night with confidence, as this has been a good year for this group of lads winning all their group matches. With good numbers training constantly this brought a whole new dimension to the squad & everyone fighting to get a spot on the starting team. Due to this fact huge improvements are evident not only in individuals but as a squad .The management are delighted with the attitude ,eagerness to improve & passion shown by everyone all year.

Every one of the squad are a credit to their families and the club and were a great bunch to manage. They can hold their heads high with their achievements this year and have proven that once you COMMIT ,FOCUS ,BELIEVE, then you can ACHIEVE.

The club & management would like to thank all the parents that helped out during year with the travelling it is greatly appreciated and doesn't go unnoticed ,THANK YOU
