Ballycumber Area Defibrillator Scheme

"Following a very productive meeting of the Ballycumber Area Defibrillator Scheme on Wednesday night (2nd April), significant steps have ben taken towards establishing a CFR scheme for the local area.

A number of local volunteers have submitted their names to the National Ambulance Service, wishing to become Cardiac First Responders.

A Cardiac First Responder is a person who has successfully completed a Pre Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC) approved Cardiac First Responder course - Community level, within the last two years. Their training covers what to do in the event of a Cardiac Arrest, Adult, Child & Infant CPR, how to use an AED (Defibrillator) Adult Chest Pain Management (suspected Heart Attack), Aspirin Therapy, Stroke recognition using F.A.S.T., and Choking (FBAO).

When the Scheme is up and running, responders in our area will be dispatched by the Ambulance Service (via sms text msg) to the scene of an incident in the community, where they will provide Emergency Treatment until someone with more advanced training, or the Ambulance crew arrive and take over.

Our next CFR meeting will take place on Wednesday night (16th April) at 9pm in the Ballycumber GAA Centre meeting rooms and all are welcome. We are still taking names for anyone wishing to become a First Responder."
